Making Jack Falcone
In a story almost too dramatic to be true, Cuban immigrant Joaquin Falcone dedicated his life and career in the FBI to bring down the Gambino mafia family in much the same way you’ll know if you’ve seen the film Donnie Brasco. Garcia’s story is from a bygone era of terms like ‘capo’, ‘made’ and ‘whack’ and names like Petey Chops, Manzo and Sal. It’s certainly thrilling in an airport novel sort of way, but if anything Garcia’s watched too many movies, the book seemingly skewed to as many Godfather and Goodfellas references as possible. The unspoken subtitle might well be ‘call me, Hollywood.’
