Mobile data for web isn’t new, but complicated pricing has been a barrier to entry for most Australian consumers. X Series is a step in the right direction in that regard, but it’ll remain to be seen if we take to mobile data as wholeheartedly as the Koreans or Japanese.

We didn’t detect any difference in print speed from comparable models and it’s the fax component that accounts for the extra price — you can get away with a simple copy/scan/print unit for much less nowadays, so weigh up whether fax is an essential option for you in this PDF/email day and age.

The really big deal however is that being digital, the signal can come over the airwaves packed with all kinds of metadata, which explains the little LCD on the front of the body. The name of the show, track listings, competitions and more can be displayed as text while you listen and you can even scroll through them. You can also control the datastream just like you would a show or video on Tivo or YouTube video, pausing, rewinding and replaying to your heart’s content even as you listen in real time.
