Ron Howard is a better filmmaker than he is a storyteller. His talent in colouring and creating a scene, casting and directing actors and building emotion have few peers in Hollywood.

The surprisingly gore-free Dead Ringers (from headtrip-helmer David Cronenberg) tries to get too psychological, and while the idea is typically bizarre Cronenberg highbrow horror, the execution is a long winded mess.

Adam Sandler keeps on trying to mesh his old ways with his new, self-styled leading man persona. Does it work? Partly, but it's hard to excuse the occasionally shoddy scriptwriting that seems to follow him wherever he goes.
