Besides being popular, it’s the only genre among the traditionally expensive fields of action or sci-fi where all you need is a recipe for blood and friends who are good screamers. Plenty of Australasian filmmakers started that way, including a certain portly, bearded kiwi who went on to win an Oscar for his Lord of the Rings films.

We often get yelled at by hardcore fans for semi-automated things like the free running, which makes you look amazing but doesn’t ask too much of you. So we try to find a balance between letting new players win but it holds levels of achievement back for people who have the time to invest.

Yeah, when I set out I had the idea but didn’t quite have the ending. I never really get to say what I want to my father, but a drama teacher told me the beauty about film is you can give someone something that you can’t in real life. It’s a family drama — it’s a love story about the father and son.
