February 2009 Films
February 1st, 2009

Sharp dialogue and strong dramatic chops lift it into very affecting territory. Great work from masters of the craft (Norton) and actors who’ve appeared in their fair share of duds (Voight and more recently Farrell) make it something special.

Terror Australis
August 1st, 2008

Besides being popular, it’s the only genre among the traditionally expensive fields of action or sci-fi where all you need is a recipe for blood and friends who are good screamers. Back For His Future
August 4th, 2012

They’re really my reaction to the constraints of the last 30 years in corporately funded and distributed filmmaking, where anything that can possibly make an audience uncomfortable and genuinely ask questions is excised.

Hollywood Hell Towns
March 1st, 2010

Humans are herd animals. We’ve always lived together — in groups of only a couple of hundred in our prehistoric days right up to tens of millions today. But few places are more fertile for movie lore than the small town.

Presented by a host of directors, stars and commentators (including the crown prince of cult, Tarantino himself) director Hartley has collected clips and comment on the genre Australia forgot in this fascinating, ballsy and wry doco.
