Considering Bang & Olufsen’s position as a prestige music player vendor it’s surprising we haven’t seen an mp3 player from it. The Beosound 6 is a compact, nine by four centimetre device built with steel instead of plastic or aluminium and with what the company claims is a ‘finer build quality’ than competitors.

We detected a faint improvement over the sound of an iPod classic, even using the iPod’s headphones, so it may be that higher quality and a desire to stand out from the crowd is worth the price. But parting with nearly a thousand dollars for 4GB of space is a very big ask when comparably sized players cost around a quarter as much. Rating: 4
