Lexar Jumpdrive

Price: $111.30

Flash memory is slowly and surely coming down in price, but when you can get a 1GB USB stick for less than $10, spending over $100 on one just doesn’t feel quite right – despite the storage space making it more cost effective per gigabyte. The Jumpdrive is more useful for occasional large file transport than regular backups – we tested it in Mac OS 10.5 and it took a little over 30 minutes to move about 10GB of data, quite unwieldy for a daily regime.

But to sweeten the deal, it comes with a handy Mac or PC utility called Secure II that creates encrypted file vaults or individual file encryption or and ‘shreds’ any sensitive files you want gone for good. Rating: 3
