Pure One Classic

Price: $249

If you’re a radio listener, digital radio will be music to your ears. The Pure One Classic is a small plastic unit that barely weighs a few dozen grams thanks to carrying only a computer chip rather than a system of heavy transistors. Already online in Perth, digital radio broadcasts in near-hi fi quality and it means the end of waves of static as the signal drops out. If it does (a rarity during testing in the metro area) it merely goes quiet.

The other advantage of digital is that the signal comes with searchable metadata, so not only can you stop, rewind and replay live radio, the small LCD readout displays whatever information the station is transmitting from song titles to competition details. Rating: 4.5
