Lenovo W700ds
Price: $3,899
Pitched as a mobile workstation for graphics professionals, the Lenovo W700ds is a huge, heavy, feature rich beast with specifications to match — the question is whether any of them are worth the large asking price.
The most notable are an extra screen that slides out of the top half to give you an extended desktop, a good idea but not enough to make a big difference at only 5 inches in width. You can use the system as a tablet thanks to the 3 x 5 inch tablet trackpad next to the cursor trackpad, but as it’s such a different size than the monitor it’s disconcerting to use. The best feature is the software-based colour calibrator that will ensure true onscreen colour on an ongoing basis.
The design of the W700ds is clunky and outdated and if there weren’t so many poorly-realised it might have been better quality compared to other workstations. Rating: 2
