Canon IXUS Range
Previously a very practical, no-nonsense imaging provider, Canon last month repositioned itself as a lifestyle provider in a big way, launching several new models in its IXUS range in a flourish of glamour.
The baseline model of the 80IS is (in Canon’s words) ‘destined to capture the hearts of the style conscious’, and comes in a selection of colours reminiscent of early iMac marketing.
Image stabilising, red eye correction and facial recognition are just some of the features of this easy to use 8-megapixel model, which goes for $379 RRP.
Up the ladder are the 85IS ($429) and 90IS ($479), both 10 megapixel models with the same 3x zoom as the 80IS, and at the serious end is the 970IS, with 5x optical zoom at $549.
The first few images taken with our 80IS were great quality, and with their fashion-conscious approach, Canon might soon wield a Nokia-style market position.
