BitDefender Total Security 2009
The biggest addition to BitDefender’s toolkit is an online backup service. Included in the price is up to 2GB of online storage which the software uses to automatically back up your system. It does so incrementally — that is, as you change a file locally — to reduce the affect on your bandwidth, and also keeps track of file versioning, so if you realise you need a file that’s been saved over several times, you can still access the version you need.
Another new security feature is the local file vault, a dedicated space on your hard disk for personal or sensitive files. Bitdefender claims the encryption in the file vault makes it ‘invulnerable’ to theft (a dangerous word to use in technology). Other new features include a prompt to scan newly attached devices for threats, and together with the protection services that form the application’s backbone, it’s a good price to cover up to three PCs.
